![]() ![]() I like Richard Harris as an actor but I do not like him as Dumbledore. Harris was becoming extremely frail and in all honesty probably would not have been able to do the Dumbledore VS Voldemort scene, or the Horcrux Cave scene in HBP justice. Where in my opinion,Gambon's dramaticism and animation was needed. However, Harris' death also came at a vital point where the series was substantially getting darker. Harris to me had a more old school approach by making Dumbledore extremely soft spoken and mystical like, which fit the lighthearted whimsical air to the first two movies. He wasnt always calm cool and collected anymore. I thought this new side to Dumbledore's personality brought a whole lot of urgency into the fold especially as the stakes got higher and more dangerous. Gambon brought physicality to his performance, he was a much more demanding and present. There are definitely some out of character moments when Dumbledore is more flustered or emotional than we've been accustomed to.īut the more that I thought about it I realized how interesting it was to see Dumbledore in a more human and more animated light. People gave him a lot of flack for his performance, and I do see why.
